Getting around

You will likely find that walking and the occasional Uber/Taxi is all you need for daily life. If you want a bit more "adventure" for a day, renting bicycles is the most fun and scenic way to see the whole 2.5-mile stretch of beach. You don’t need a car if you plan to stay within Jacó. However, if you want to explore Carara National Park, Nauyaca Waterfalls, or hidden beaches like Playa Mantas, a rental is worth it for a day or two. There are several agencies in town (Adobe, Alamo, and Economy). Jacó is one of the most walkable beach towns in Costa Rica. The Route: The main street, Avenida Pastor Díaz, runs parallel to the beach and contains almost all the shops, restaurants, and bars. From your location: From the north end, it is a pleasant 10–15 minute walk to the center of the action. During the day, it is very safe; at night, it is generally fine on the main well-lit roads, but most people prefer a quick taxi for late-night returns.
