One-bedroom stays for two in Playa Herradura

If you're searching for a one-bedroom rental in the Garabito area of Puntarenas, the ones we manage sit in Playa Herradura, the bay just north of Jacó, on a single shared property called Zenergy Casa & Cabinas. There are three of them that sleep two: Cabina Bamboo, Cabina Hibiscus, and the Zen Den. A fourth, Cabina Plumeria, has one bedroom but sleeps three thanks to a day-bed, and the Sunflower Suite is a king room with its own ensuite. All of them share the same pool, the same garden, and the same onsite team.
That shared-property arrangement is the thing most people searching for "one-bedroom" don't expect, and it's the first thing worth understanding, because it changes what your trip feels like.
One property, several front doors
Zenergy is a three-bedroom main house with guest cabinas set around it in the garden, all built around one large pool. Book a cabina and you get your own door, your own kitchen, your own patio. You also get neighbours, in the way a small tropical guesthouse has neighbours: people reading under the gazebo in the afternoon, someone cooking on the BBQ at six.
For couples, that usually lands well. You're not in a hotel corridor and you're not alone on a hillside. For the small number of guests who want absolute privacy for a week, it's worth knowing in advance rather than discovering at check-in.
The Zen Den is the exception to the "own front door" rule in one respect: it sits inside the main house, with a bedroom-door lock and private entrance access, and its bathroom is shared with the Rose Room next to it. The kitchen it uses is the shared house kitchen. That makes it the most sociable of the one-bedrooms, and the one to skip if a private bathroom is non-negotiable.
Bamboo, Hibiscus, Zen Den: how they differ
All three sleep two, all three have air conditioning, Wi-Fi and a desk, and all three use the community pool. The differences are small but real.
- Cabina Bamboo is a standalone studio cabin with a balcony, its own full kitchen and a bathroom to itself. Board games in the cupboard, a crib available if you're travelling with a baby. It's the most self-contained of the three.
- Cabina Hibiscus is laid out much the same way, with a balcony, a full kitchen and its own bathroom, plus a shelf of books and children's dinnerware if you need it. Also keeps a crib.
- Zen Den is the smallest and the most interior: a full bed, a writing desk, a reading nook, room-darkening shades, and that bathroom shared with the Rose Room.
One thing pet owners should pin down early: Bamboo and Hibiscus are listed as allowing pets, the Zen Den is not. Pines & Beaches has pet-friendly stays across both destinations, but it's a per-home decision rather than a blanket policy, so tell us about the dog when you ask about dates.
If you're working from here
Every one-bedroom on this property lists a dedicated workspace and Wi-Fi, which is less common in beach cabinas than it ought to be. The Zen Den and the Rose Room were both put together around a desk and a reading chair, and the cabinas each have a kitchen and a dining table, so you're not working off a bed with a laptop on your knees.
What makes a working month plausible here is less the desk than the laundry and the stove. Washer, dryer, oven, microwave, a spice rack already stocked: you can cook a Tuesday dinner instead of eating out forty nights running. Free parking too, which matters because you will want a car.
What's actually around you
Herradura is a bay, not a strip. The centre of gravity is Los Sueños Resort & Marina, where the Marina Village has four waterfront restaurants: Dolce Vita Coffee and Sweets for breakfast, Lanterna Italian Steakhouse and Garden, Bambu for sushi, and The Hook Up, which runs breakfast through dinner. La Iguana, the eighteen-hole championship course, is part of the same development. The marina itself was the first government-approved marina in Costa Rica, and watching the sportfishing boats come back in the late afternoon is a genuinely good way to spend an hour.
Jacó is a short run down the coast road, call it fifteen minutes or so depending on where you're starting. That's where the surf schools, the nightlife, the shops and the casinos are. The practical shape of a week here is quiet mornings in Herradura, swimming and beach walks, then driving into Jacó when you want noise.
North on Route 34 is Carara National Park, around twenty minutes from Jacó. It protects the only transitional forest on the central Pacific and is home to roughly half of Costa Rica's bird species, which is why the scarlet macaws turn up so reliably overhead. It was also the first national park in the country to build a universal trail, so it's walkable for people who can't manage rough ground. Manuel Antonio is the other big day out, about an hour south, longer if the road is busy.
Getting here from the international airport at San José takes about ninety minutes on the modern highway, almost all of it easy driving.

If two of you need more room than a studio
Two homes on the same property stretch the brief in useful directions. Cabina Plumeria keeps one bedroom with a queen bed but adds a day-bed, so it sleeps three: good for a couple who want somewhere to sprawl in the afternoon, or a small family. The Sunflower Suite goes the other way, a king bed and a private ensuite bathroom hung with custom Costa Rican art, for two people who care more about the bed and the bathroom than about having a kitchen of their own.
And if the trip grows, the whole of Zenergy Casa & Cabinas books as one: the main house plus the cabinas, sleeping thirteen. Couples who come once with friends often come back for a cabina on their own, which tells you something about how the place works.
Before you book
Dates drive everything here. With this few one-bedrooms on a single property, the question isn't which one is best in the abstract, it's which one is free the week you want. Ask us and we'll tell you what's open and what it costs for your nights, including taxes and any fees, along with minimum stay and cancellation terms, and the pet policy for the specific cabina you're considering.
We host and manage these stays ourselves, and there's a team on the ground at Zenergy who will book your fishing charter or point you at the right beach on a given tide. Reach us through the app, by text, email or phone. Booking direct keeps the platform middlemen and their fees out of it.
