The 3-bedroom surf trip to Jacó: where to stay

If you want exactly three bedrooms in Garabito and you want to surf, the answer in our portfolio is Condo Brisa, a three-bedroom condo at Viva Jacó in the northern end of town that sleeps six. That's the match. Everything else we have in Garabito is either smaller or bigger, and the bigger ones are worth knowing about, because a surf trip has a habit of growing by two people between the group chat and the flights.
Why Garabito is the right canton for a mixed-ability surf group
Garabito is the slice of Puntarenas that holds Jacó, Herradura and Playa Hermosa, and the reason it works for a group of friends or a family is that three very different waves sit within a short drive of each other. Jacó's main beach break is sand-bottomed and consistent, the southern end mellower and the northern end faster and punchier, which means beginners and intermediates can surf the same beach and still get what they came for. Ten to fifteen minutes south, Playa Hermosa is a heavy, hollow beach break that hosts competitions and is genuinely for experienced surfers; it's also one of the few World Surfing Reserves in Central America. Herradura, in its protected bay north of town, rarely breaks at all unless the swell is huge, which makes it the place to put a paddleboard in the water or let kids swim without reading a rip.
Further out there's Roca Loca, a fast reef break just outside Jacó for advanced surfers only, and Playa Escondida to the north, reached by boat from Herradura. Esterillos is about half an hour south, Bejuco a bit beyond that. From San José's airport you're looking at roughly an hour and a half to two hours on the highway, longer if you stop.
Condo Brisa, the actual three-bedroom
Three bedrooms, two bathrooms, six guests, in the quieter northern part of Jacó at Viva Jacó. One queen and two doubles, so it divides neatly into two couples plus a pair, or parents plus kids, without anyone drawing the short straw on a sofa bed. Each bedroom has its own air conditioning, which matters more than people expect when half the group wants to sleep cold and the other half doesn't.
Two things decide it for surf groups. First, the Wi-Fi runs at 200 Mbps, so whoever is checking forecasts at six in the morning or working a half-day isn't fighting the connection, and there's a dedicated workspace if someone is extending the trip into a working week. Second, the building sits in a community with 24/7 security, pools for adults and kids, a gym, BBQ areas, a children's playground and secured parking. There's a game room with a pool table and foosball downstairs, which is where the group ends up on the afternoon the wind comes up and the sea turns to mush. The condo's own listing puts it about 300 meters from Jacó Beach, a five-minute walk, with downtown Jacó close by and Hermosa and Herradura an easy drive.
The view is inland rather than oceanfront: lush mountain, and scarlet macaws go over often enough that you stop pointing at them by day three. There's an elevator, children's dinnerware in the cupboards, a dishwasher and a washer/dryer, which is the unglamorous amenity that actually matters when six people are producing salty towels and boardshorts daily. Automated check-in means a late arrival from the airport isn't a problem. No pets at this one.
When six beds turns out to be five too few
Surf trips swell. If your three-bedroom search is really a "we need somewhere for seven or eight" search, look at Casa Rivera, a four-bedroom, three-bathroom house in the southern heart of Jacó that sleeps eight. It's a single-family home inside a gated, resort-style community, so the day off the water fills itself: tennis court, ping pong, mini golf, volleyball, basketball, a lap pool, a yoga deck, walking paths and shaded lounging. There's an ice maker, which is a small thing until you're trying to keep a cooler cold through a long afternoon on the sand. The beach is a short walk or a quick cab, and the restaurants and nightlife of Jacó are close without being underneath you.
Go bigger again and you reach Zenergy Casa & Cabinas, which sleeps thirteen across a main house and three separate guest cabinas, with five bathrooms between them. The layout is the point: three bedrooms in the main house (two sharing a bathroom, one ensuite) plus cabinas outside, so a family group can keep couples, kids and the friend who surfs dawn patrol in separate buildings. There's a large outdoor pool, bicycles, a crib, and an onsite team if you need something. It's also our pet-friendly Garabito house. Call it what it is: a six-bedroom property, not a three-bedroom one, but for a reunion-shaped trip where nobody wants to share a wall, it's the one that solves the problem.
Going smaller, or splitting the group
Some three-bedroom searches are really "we need three private sleeping spaces". If that's you, the Zenergy property also rents in pieces: Cabina Plumeria and Cabina Bamboo together sleep five, and the Zen Den and Rose Room in the main house sleep four between them, each with its own patio and garden access. And if part of your group wants the Viva Jacó building but you need a second unit, Condo Jadura is a two-bedroom on the sixth floor of the same tower, looking out over the pool deck and the rainforest-covered mountains behind town.
What to sort out before you book
Ask us about the things that change by season and by booking rather than guessing from a listing page. Availability and rates for your dates, minimum stays, and whether the community amenities you're counting on, the gym at Viva Jacó, the tennis court at Casa Rivera, have hours or access rules during your week. If you're bringing boards or renting them, ask where they live overnight at the home you've chosen, and ask before you book rather than after you land with three longboards and a rental car. Pet policies differ by property, so confirm yours.
Every one of these homes is personally managed by us, so you're asking a person who has stood in the room, not a platform. Booking direct keeps the middlemen and platform fees out of it. Tell us how many of you there are, how many actually surf, and which end of town you want to wake up in, and we'll point you at the right door.
